German-American punk powerhouse from Cologne! Explosive, emotional, empowered – THE EXTRAS are the transatlantic wrecking ball led by ELMAR FREELS and JON MANIERRE from New York. Since 2023, they’ve been making waves with their storm of noise, passion, and melody. The members of THE EXTRAS are herd-instinct resisters with diverse musical backgrounds: PAT BEWICK and JON—US migrants on bass, guitar, and synth—come from punk, pop punk, and country. KRISSY WEIFFEN, a trans guitarist, has a dark past in black metal. Nocturnal drummer LEROY KALDENBACH can handle everything from blues to metal, and frontman ELMAR FREELS searches for new forms of expression somewhere between indie and hardcore punk. Their songs speak to those searching for intensity and authenticity: outsiders, family people, rebels, everyday folks, and eternal seekers. Joining them on stage with powerful vocals are ANNIKA and ANNETTE, the Alpha Singers. In their founding year, THE EXTRAS had the honor of supporting ULTRABOMB, the all-star punk band led by HÜSKER DÜ icon GREG NORTON—who also makes a guest appearance on their debut album Closer, set for release in summer 2025 on ROOKIE RECORDS. Also making special guest appearances: first-wave NY punk legend SONNY VINCENT and drumming powerhouse JAMIE OLIVER (Anti-Nowhere League, UK Subs). THE EXTRAS' Sound: an uncompromising widescreen assault shaped by the band’s diverse influences. Their lyrics are authentic, poetic, real—sometimes abstract, emotionally charged, and occasionally dumb. They tackle themes of isolation, loss, existential fear, relationships, family, politics, and social commentary—laced with humor and hope for change. Frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Elmore Ex (Elmar Freels) co-founded the punk rock 'n' rollers DUMBELL with Paul Smith, released numerous albums, and toured Europe and the US—including a gig at CBGBs, the birthplace of punk. Jon Manniere is a bass, guitar, and synth virtuoso, delivering Bee Gees-like backing vocals. Pat Bewick aka Expat Riot (bass) played in US punk bands before joining Germany’s SNAPES and GEISTIGE VERUNREINIGUNG. Drummer Leroy the K founded the pop-punk outfit wild.me and works as a music producer. Guitarist Killer Krissy is practically double trans—once metal, now punk, with the mission of injecting some metal into the band. In 2025, THE EXTRAS will release their debut album Closer on Rookie Records—recorded in Spain with legendary producer Paul Grau (Rausch, Emil Bulls, Mark Forster… ha!).
